  • Detroit Historical Museum

    5401 Woodward Ave. Detroit

    313-833-1805

Exhibitions in the 78,000 square foot facility show the history of southeastern Michigan, and include the favorite and newly renovated Streets of Old Detroit, recreating Detroit street scenes from the 1840s, 1870s and early 1900s. In December 1995, the Museum opened the Motor City Exhibition, celebrating 100 years of automotive history in Detroit. The 8,000 square foot exhibition features an actual working body drop taken from the General Motors Cadillac Clark Avenue facility. Additional permanent exhibits include Frontiers to Factories, which takes a look at Detroiters at work from 1701 to 1901, and The Glancy Trains, an interactive display of model trains that is a long-time Detroit tradition. Other Museum galleries feature changing exhibits for all ages.
